GENERAL INFORMATION

Registration must be postmarked by September 1, 2011.

 

ELIGIBILITY AND AGE
Participants are required to reside in one of the following jurisdictions: Cities of Alexandria, Falls Church or Fairfax and the Counties of Arlington, Fairfax, Fauquier, Loudoun or Prince William and be 50 years of age or older as of December 31, 2011.

Events are broken down in 5, 10 or no age groups. Age groups for all doubles and team competitions will be determined by the age of the youngest participant. All substitutes must be within the same age group or older. All substitutes must be registered and have paid all fees to be eligible to participate.

REGISTRATION
Register online at www.nvso.us OR complete BOTH sides of the registration form pages 7 and 8, sign, date and send payment in the US Mail. For more information call the Hotline.

Athletes may enter, AND PAY FOR, as many events as they like, as long as the events do not overlap in time.

Registrations must be postmarked by September 1, 2011. Onsite registration is allowed for some events.The NVSO Committee reserves the right to cancel any event after the posted deadline date due to insufficient registration or weather.

Early Registration is appreciated.

WEATHER
Rain Policy: In case of rain on any day of competition, outdoor events may be rescheduled. To confirm Weather Cancellations, call (703) 228-3600, ext. 9996. See Event Schedule for rain make-up dates. Events will be rescheduled only one time.

Code Red Policy: If Code Red air quality conditions apply, outdoor events will be rescheduled. To confirm Code Red Cancellations, call (703) 228-3600, ext. 9996. See Event Schedule for make-up dates. Events will be rescheduled only one time.

AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT
The Northern Virginia Senior Olympics complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act for qualified individuals. To make an ADA accommodation request, please call (703) 838-5095, ext. 549 TTY (703) 838-4902 by the September 1, 2011 registration deadline.

FEE SCHEDULE

Registration  $10
Each event $1
Additional fees required for:
Bowling (includes lunch) $9.75
Golf (includes green fees, lunch, cart)  $50
Miniature Golf $3.50

 Athletes must check in EACH DAY with the event director a minimum of 15 minutes before the scheduled competition. Athletes will not be allowed to join an event after the event has begun.

REFUND POLICY
Full refunds will be issued if an event is cancelled or the date is changed by NVSO Committee. Refund requests for other reasons must be received in writing, prior to registration deadline. Requests received after the deadline will be considered on a case by case basis. Refund checks must be cashed or deposited by the end of the year. Allow 4 to 6 weeks to receive a refund.

Condensed rules begin on page 4. For complete rules visit our website www.nvso.us. Events Directors reserve the right to resolve any rules disputes, and to disqualify any participant who arrives late to any event or fails to adhere to the events’ rules.

Appeals
Appeals are required to be filed with a committee member in writing within 24 hours of the scheduled event. Decisions will be made within a timely manner. At no time will an appeal be permitted in situations relying on human judgment. Only misinterpretations of rules will justify an appeal.

SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
The Northern Virginia Senior Olympic Committee encourages participation in the Northern Virginia Senior Olympics. If you, a member of your family or a friend would like to participate in the Northern Virginia Senior Olympics and are in need of fee assistance in order to participate, please contact your sponsoring jurisdiction (see front page) for more detailed information.

MEDAL POLICY
Medals will be awarded to the first, second and third place winners. In case of a tie, two medals will be given except in some events where ties will be played off. Medals will be awarded on the day of the event. If you are unable to receive your medal on the day of the event, you may pick up your medals at the Falls Church Community Center, 223 Little Falls Street, beginning October 17. Medals must be picked up by December 15, 2011. Medals WILL NOT be mailed. If you have questions, call (703) 248-5020.
